Deloitte’s IMPACT Day Education Summit

My colleagues at Deloitte convened a group of business, non-profit and education leaders in Los Angeles to have a conversation about the future of education.  While IMPACT Day, as with many companies annual day of service, has its share of painting and planting activities, a third of Deloitte’s projects are skill-based and Deloitte, being a leader in skill based and pro-bono service, added an important dimension in Los Angeles with the Education Summit.  The day started with remarks by Jim Moffatt, Chairman & CEO, Deloitte Consulting LLP.  He spoke of the importance of education to both business and society.  There were presentations from Taproot Foundation, Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and UNITE LA.  All set the stage for a presentation of what Deloitte does best, figuring out difficult situations and putting them into a framework and a model for action.  Their Education Value Map is brilliant.  It is based on the Deloitte Enterprise Value Map that is used in their consulting practice.  “The Education Performance Map is a framework that depicts the factors driving educational performance and provides ideas around what we can all do to help students and schools succeed.”  After it was created, it was given to a non-profit so all may benefit.  www.educationmap.org  Cross sector collaborations are needed to solve our most serious societal problems.  In Los Angeles, Deloitte is taking a leadership role in convening those who want to actively dive in and help our schools be the best they can, all within a challenging structural environment.  Success is not an option, it is essential for our collective future.  www.deloitte.com/us/impactday
