“Out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope!”

Last week I had an opportunity to walk through the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial next to the Tidal Basin in Washington DC.  Seeing this beautiful tribute brought back many memories of my involvement with the Memorial when I was at Disney.  Disney hosted the Los Angeles dinner where we made a $2.5 million donation towards the construction with the goal of exciting others on the west coast to join us in the effort.  It was fascinating to see firsthand the fundraising elements needed for such a magnificent memorial, the design process, construction and now the finished site.  The use of stone, not only for the sculpture of Dr. King, but to spotlight many of his moving quotes, is spectacular.  It fits within this setting perfectly with Dr. King looking across the water towards Thomas Jefferson in his Memorial.  In the spring it will be a spectacular spot to view the cherry blossoms.  The Memorial will be dedicated this weekend by President Obama. A proud moment for our country. http://www.mlkmemorial.org
