National Day of Service and Remembrance

Today around the nation, people are out in force strengthening communities in honor of those who were lost nine years ago.  While the memory of this horrific day is permanently branded into our minds, the triumph of the human spirit shines brightly through.  In Los Angeles, Mayor Villaraigosa and the Corporation for National and Community Service have a daylong project planned in south Los Angeles that includes the planting of community gardens.  This is one example of the wonderful projects taking place as part of MyGoodDeed.org.  This group was started by David Paine who over the years has spent thousands of hours not only to commemorate this day through service but to ensure that this day was included in the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act.  He already is working tirelessly to make next year, the 10th anniversary, the largest day of service in history.  He’ll do it!  The National Day of Service and Remembrance is co-sponsored by HandsOn Network, CNCS and the 9/11 Memorial. 911dayofservice.org
